Dominik Thalhammer coach of Cercle Brugge

Dominik Thalhammer is the new coach of Cercle Brugge. The 51-year-old Austrian signed a contract until June 2023 with Cercle. Dominik Thalhammer has a wealth of experience and has demonstrated his managementskills by achieving solid results with LASK Linz in the Austrian League as well on the European stage.

As a coach, Dominik Thalhammer was active between July 2020 and September 2021 for the Austrian LASK Linz. In his first match as coach of LASK, during the 1/8th finals of the Europa League, he immediately took on Manchester United. During last season's European campaign, LASK took on Antwerp in the Europa League group stage after eliminating Sporting CP (Portugal) and DAC Streda (Slovakia) in the qualifiers. LASK Linz would eventually finish in 3rd place in Group J (after Tottenham and Antwerp) with 10 points from 6 matches.

In the Austrian Bundesliga, Thalhammer and LASK Linz finished last season in 4th place. For the first time in 21 years the team also reached the Austrian Cup final. This season Thalhammer eliminated Vojvodina (Serbia) and St. Johnstone (Scotland) in order to qualify LASK Linz for the Europa Conference League group stage.

In the past, Dominik Thalhammer has also been active for 10 years in various positions for the Austrian Football Association, including young player development. As a coach, he is known as someone who plays high-intensity football with a lot of pressing and a healthy aggressiveness up front. At Cercle Brugge, Dominik Thalhammer, together with his assistants Jimmy De Wulf and Miron Muslic, will have to pull Cercle out of the relegation zone as quickly as possible. Welcome to the team!

Thibo Somers: “Hopefully we can celebrate again soon with the supporters”

Thibo Somers was once again a scourge of the Eupen defense, playing a complete match and in the end the Cercle youth product was also able to break the deadlock, giving Cercle the lead fifteen minutes from time “It was a very difficult game for us, especially the first half. The game was closely fought for a long time and we didn't create many chances. Eupen played with a very low block and only attacked with long balls. In the second half we came out of the dressing room physically stronger and luckily we can take three points back to Bruges. We do hope that the supporters will be able to return to the stadium soon, because we do miss them.”
