Cercle earn a well-deserved point at the Kielstadion in the last minute

After a tough match against Eupen, Cercle went to the Kielstadion with a clear assignment. Things started well enough against Beerschot, but Holzhauser picked out Suzuki with a great assist to make it 1-0 halfway through the first half. After half-time, the Groen-Zwart looked for an equalizer, but Mike Vanhamel kept the visitors at bay until close to full time before a late equalizer from Musaba, who saved a point for Cercle.

For the Groen-Zwart, coach Paul Clement chose Bates to play at centre back next to Taravel and Kanouté instead of Hoggas in midfield.

During the game's opening stages an enthusiastic Cercle took the initiative. After 20 minutes the pace picked up even more after a good long shot from Hazard which hit the post. Suddenly, however Holzhauser made the difference. The home team's Austrian midfielder cleverly played in Suzuki, who found just enough room to take on a shot, which hit the target, allowing Beerschot to take the lead from out of nowhere.

The Groen-Zwart came out of the dressing room motivated and again took the initiative. Beerschot, however, would count on an excellent Mike Vanhamel in goal, keeping attempts by Musaba and Hazard out of his goal and seeing a deflected shot from Ugbo flash just wide.

Things seemed close to finished, until Ugbo was able to play a ball from the edge of the area to Musaba, who tucked home a low shot. Despite waiting until the last minute, the Groen-Zwart took a deserved point for their efforts.

Cercle: Didillon - Velkovski, Taravel, Bates, Biancone - Vanhoutte, Kanouté, Hotic - Hazard (87' Somers), Ugbo and Musaba

Beerschot: Vanhamel, Van den Bergh, Frans, Bourdin, Holzhauser (91' Eleke), Suzuki (78' Noubissi), Pietermaat, Sanusi, Sanyang (71' Van den Buijs), Vorogovskiy (71' Grisez) and Coulibaly

On a pitch that was in poor shape, Cercle took a 0-2 lead via goals from Ugbo and Pavlovic, but just before half-time Makarenko brought tension back into the match as he pulled one back for the hosts. In the second half Kortrijk tried to play with opportunistic football and individual play through Selemani, but the Cercle defense easily held their own. The match remained full of tension until the end of the nine minutes of injury time, but Cercle held on to the lead and took an important three points.

For Cercle, the team's brand new acquisition Strahinja Pavlovic immediately started, playing together with Bates and Marcelin as the three centre backs in a five-man defense. Kevin Hoggas also returned to the squad, replacing Kanouté in midfield. Vitinho took the place of the injured Velkovski.
